Renovation Project Budget Builder

Combine individual renovation estimates, add other project allowances, adjust tax and contingency, and print a private budget report.

Projects in your budget

Estimates you deliberately save from supported calculators appear here. Add other work manually below. A manual allowance has no automatically estimated low/high range.

Add a project allowance

Use this for other projects or a written contractor allowance. Avoid adding the same scope twice.

Tax and contingency assumptions

Enter an assumed effective tax rate for the planned scope. Taxability and rebates vary by province and type of work. The contingency is applied to the pre-tax scope; the same user-supplied tax rate is applied to the reserve.

Budget totals are planning scenarios, not bids. Saved calculator estimates may include overlapping work—for example, kitchen renovation and kitchen flooring. Remove overlap before using a combined total.

What this budget includes

Each saved calculator contributes its current low, typical and high estimates. Manual allowances contribute a single amount to each scenario. The planner then adds the percentage reserve and user-entered tax. It does not separately price materials, labour, permits, hidden damage or financing.

For an independent whole-property cost allowance tool, use the existing whole-home estimator. For construction bids, use the quote comparison tool.

Calculation method: HomeCostCanada methodology. Selected calculator inputs are copied into the local report. Prices have not been independently validated against a representative national contractor quote sample.
