Flooring Installation Cost in Canada: Price the Preparation

Flooring quotes often focus on the product price while preparation, removal, transitions and stairs are left vague. Those omissions can decide the final total.

Compare installed systems

Material-only prices do not include underlay, adhesive, fasteners, transitions, baseboards, removal, disposal or labour. Ask for an installed scope with quantities.

Subfloor preparation needs rules

Minor patching and extensive levelling are different jobs. A good quote states what preparation is included and gives a unit rate or approval process for extra work.

Waste depends on the room and product

Pattern, plank size, room shape and installation direction affect waste. Confirm the quantity ordered and who keeps unused material for future repairs.

Stairs are not ordinary square footage

Treads, risers, nosings and trim are labour-intensive. Price stairs and specialty transitions separately rather than hiding them in the floor-area rate.
